People are surprised to learn that we actually have wild orchids growing around our state. Lots of folks know the Pink Lady’s Slippers but many do not realize that they happen to be orchids. Believe it or not, this species and several other orchids grow wild even within the town limits of Kernersville. North Carolina is “orchid rich” with more species than any other state in North America except Florida. Several of our 70 species reach their US southern limit in the Appalachians or their northern limit along the coastal plains. Most of our plants are on the state’s endangered or threatened list and should be enjoyed where they are found. They are beautiful flowers to see. Lunch and Learn is FREE.
