Company Opens a Second Location to Expand Reach in Southeastern US Market

Excel Interior Door, a manufacturing company headquartered in Hartselle, Alabama, has selected a site in Winston-Salem’s Union Cross Industrial Center for a new production and distribution facility. The expanding company is seeking a second location to meet growth in demand.

Excel will manufacture wood residential interior doors at the Winston-Salem site. The company plans to invest $10.5 million and add 69 new jobs over the next 5 years.

“Our customer demand is growing particularly along the East Coast, and we are excited to be able to expand our capabilities with a new location to meet our customers’ needs,” says Mitch Sanner, CEO of Excel Interior Doors. “Among our top considerations for a new location were strong manufacturing workforce availability and easy transportation logistics. Winston-Salem provided these among many other advantages.”

“The talent pipeline in Winston-Salem is focused on delivering skilled talent in our top growing industries, including manufacturing. Our education ecosystem led by Forsyth Tech is aligned with employer demand, and we see the great results of that collaboration and alignment with successful projects like this one which will provide good paying jobs for the local workforce.” says Mark Owens, President and CEO of Greater Winston-Salem, Inc.

Excel Interior Door plans to hire 69 employees in front office, supply chain, and various manufacturing roles to staff the Winston-Salem facility. They will occupy a 144,000SF spec building on the campus of Union Cross Industrial Center alongside other manufacturers including Ziehl-Abegg, Progress Rail, Herbalife, and others.

“Union Cross has become a thriving hub of advanced manufacturing and a strong generator of new jobs for the community. We are excited to welcome Excel Interior Door as another employer,” says Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines. “The development came about through public and private collaboration to diversify our industry sectors and offer opportunities for companies to locate here. This is a great example of our community working together to create economic growth.”

“We are happy to support the expansion of Excel Interior Door and provide them increased access to their customer base from here in Forsyth County,” says Don Martin, Chair of the Forsyth County Commissioners. “With recent advanced manufacturing growth we are confident that more companies will take advantage of our ideal location and talent pool.”
